Reopening of Coolyhane Road (Mill Road), Macroom on 10th July 2020
The Coolyhane Road was closed from the 25th May 2020 for seven weeks to facilitate the commencement of construction work on the Coolyhane underbridge and the construction of the new road embankment in this area. The road closure resulted in some inconvenience for residents of the area with alternative routes made available with the closure, in general, working well. The first phase of bridge construction commenced during the road closure along with the construction of the new embankments for the new N22 mainline. The Coolyhane Road was reopened, on its original alignment, to general traffic on the 10th July 2020.
Work is continuing on the construction of the Coolyhane underbridge. The contractor has applied for a further road closure of the Mill Road, for a 5-week period from early September 2020. This road closure is required to facilitate the construction of the remainder of the bridge and the completion of the realignment of the Coolyhane road.
Anyone who will have travelled on the Coolyhane Road since it’s reopening will have observed the extent of the works carried out during the closure. The Contractor wishes to express gratitude for the patience and co-operation of local residents affected by the road closures and wishes to assure the public that all efforts are made to keep disturbance from the works to a minimum.
